Details for 2018 tour coming in November

Cycle for six days on lightly traveled back roads through the woods of northern Wisconsin, past quiet lakes too numerous to count. Paddle a kayak on a quiet lake and tour the Eagle River Chain on a pirate ship!

The 2017 tour showcases the many miles of asphalt bicycle trails that Vilas County has been constructing for the past fifteen years in it’s effort to add bicyclists to the group of sports enthusiasts who are already fans of this popular northern county. Over 50 miles of this 300 mile tour take place on the trails, which wind through the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest past campgrounds and lakeside beaches. Wildlife sightings are common each day. Once again we are offering the the pedal and paddle option on day five. This option allows you to bike a shortened route in the morning and kayak a northern lake in the afternoon.*  We stay overnight in popular tourist towns at locations offering swimming opportunities, and in St. Germain on days three and four, the free use of canoes and kayaks. We energize for our bicycle adventure each day with hearty buffet breakfasts (restaurant prepared buffets, NOT chain hotel continental) and delicious restaurant dinners. New for 2017, we are spending two days in the deluxe lake front condos at the Black Bear Resort in St. Germain. This allows riders to choose a day to just enjoy the watercraft and swimming beach at the resort, or do a round trip bike ride to explore the town of Eagle River and take a boat tour of area lakes with the Pirates of Eagle River. Also new for 2017 we are offering an optional room upgrade at the Northernaire Resort on Sunday evening for an additional fee. (See below for details). Due to the popularity of the area during the summer months, this tour fills early, so don’t wait to register!

*Paddle option available for $35 additional fee and must be elected at time of registration. Transport of kayaks and cyclists to the lake is provided. The kayak activity (limited to first 24 people to sign up) is not a guided tour. It is assumed that those choosing this option will have kayaking experience as no instruction will be given. Due to the kayak rental business’s policies, no refunds are available in case of cancellation for bad weather.

**Sunday’s tour hotel is the Oneida Village Inn, a clean but older basic hotel. For those interested in more luxurious accommodations we offer an upgrade to stay in a one or two bedroom condo at the Northernaire resort three miles from the Oneida Village Inn. Tour check in, pre-tour meeting, dinner, overnight parking, and breakfast take place at the Oneida Village Inn and those choosing the upgrade will be responsible for their own transportation between hotels. For those interested in extending their stay in the area before or after the tour, the Northernaire is offering a 10% discount off of their regular rate for nights other than Sunday August 6. The one bedroom condos have a king bed in the bedroom and a pull out queen sleeper sofa in the living room. The two bedroom condos have a king in one bedroom, a queen in the other, and a pull out queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Upgrade prices are as follows: a one bedroom condo for one or two people, $50 per person; a two bedroom condo for two people, $60 per person, for three people $30 per person, for four people $15 per person.

Lodging Note: All lodging is of good quality. In a few towns, however, rooms may differ slightly (i.e. location and furnishings), in which case we will assign rooms in the order in which we receive registrations. At the Black Bear Resort on Little Lake Germain, half of the group will have their private bathroom located next door to their room rather than within it, and two bedrooms (four people) will be located within one deluxe waterfront condo. We believe this small inconvenience is more than made up for by the outstanding quality of this resort.
